What does an ordinary day look like for Czech Air Force pilots? How demanding is it to fly a supersonic Gripen? And how many people does it take to make sure the aircraft can even take off?
Students from the Secondary Vocational School and Training Centre in Nymburk had the chance to look behind the scenes at the 21st Tactical Air Force Base in Čáslav. After an introductory presentation about the base and its operations, they tried out the L-159 aircraft simulator and enjoyed a virtual flight over the Czech Republic.
Near the main runway, they watched three JAS-39C Gripens take off, and finally visited the maintenance hangar where technicians look after the aircraft. There, they were able to take a close look at both types – the JAS-39 Gripen and the L-159 Alca.
The “Get to know NATO” project is organised with the support of the PPF Foundation.
